Palantir and Airbnb Earnings: What the Street Is Missing
YouTube finance channels and X are split on which earnings report matters more this week, and the VIX spike Friday tells you the stakes are real

Ticker Ratings
Two tickers are eating up the social sentiment feeds this week: $PLTR and $ABNB. Bloomberg's Week Ahead podcast put them both on the board alongside $AAPL, and X has been running hot on both names heading into earnings. The question isn't whether these companies are interesting. It's whether the crowd is actually looking at the right things.
Start with $PLTR. Palantir is the internet's favorite serious-sounding AI stock, and for once the hype has a foundation. Bloomberg's podcast flagged record revenue expectations driven by US government contracts and enterprise AI demand. That tracks. The US defense budget isn't shrinking while tankers are literally on fire in the Strait of Hormuz, and Palantir's government division is basically a pick-and-shovel play on geopolitical chaos. The bear case is real though: AI developers are multiplying fast, and non-US governments are increasingly funneling contracts toward domestic tech companies. If international expansion stalls, the multiple looks uncomfortably stretched.
Now look at $ABNB. This is the one X seems to be sleeping on. Bloomberg's podcast noted travel demand remains resilient and Airbnb earnings are expected to hit a 3-year high, with Booking and Expedia also posting strong numbers. And yet the social conversation around Airbnb is dominated by fees, horror stories, and vibes-based pessimism. That disconnect between retail sentiment and the actual earnings trajectory is exactly where money gets made or lost. The longer-term AI risk to booking platforms is a valid structural concern, but that's a 2028 conversation, not a Q3 2026 one.
The macro backdrop makes this earnings week genuinely interesting. The VIX jumped 12.91% on October 30 after a week of grinding lower, semiconductors sold off 6.2% in a single Friday session per Brian Shannon's market recap, and the Nasdaq is showing the classic lower-highs, lower-lows setup that bears love to cite. That's not a great environment for momentum names to get rewarded for beating estimates.
- $PLTR: Record revenue expected, government tailwinds real, but competitive pressure is building and the valuation needs perfect execution
- $ABNB: Social sentiment is way too negative relative to the actual earnings setup; 3-year high expectations deserve more respect
YouTube is crowding into Palantir because it sounds smart at dinner parties. Airbnb is the one quietly packing its bags for a beat, and nobody brought an umbrella.
