Micron ($MU) Pops 11% on Semiconductor Snapback: AI Bears Bewildered
Momentum returns to semiconductor stocks as YouTube's top traders pile into AI plays after a bruising drawdown.
Ticker Ratings
Remember when semiconductors were left for dead, and AI infrastructure stocks looked like they’d installed DOS instead of Windows 11? Yeah, me neither, because $MU just spiked over 11% in a single session. Welcome to the snapback, brought to you by momentum, FOMO, and YouTube’s own Stephanie Link, whose buy-the-dip strategy is finally getting some applause.
Link features front and center on CNBC’s Trade Tracker, taking profits in Marvell and Teradyne after big gains, then doubling down on $MU after it cratered roughly 24% from its highs. She cites “strong fundamentals” and a still-hungry market for memory, proving sometimes value investing is just buying what everyone else panic sold last week.
Nvidia ($NVDA), the caboose of this recent downturn, also gets fresh love. Link argues it’s finally lagged its AI siblings and (brace yourself) trades at an “attractive forward multiple.” For Nvidia, that’s code for “slightly less nosebleed than usual,” but I’ll allow it. Joe from CNBC even dubs $MU and $NVDA “low-risk entries” near key technical support. Who said AI investing couldn’t be romantic?
Of course, the AI trade isn’t just fun and games. ETF Edge calls out mounting concentration and volatility risk as everyone piles into the sector, the kind of party where no one wants to leave first, but someone always ends up regretting the tequila shots. Meanwhile, sector earnings are strong: semis post nearly 100% earnings growth, with Micron’s demand buttressed by AI’s real-world hunger for memory chips. Even South Korean exports (up 70% year-over-year) flash green for the cycle, despite all the geopolitical and tech regulation soap opera in the background.
Bears will call this a dead cat bounce, but that cat just got a GPU upgrade. Watch for guidance to matter more than ever this earnings cycle, and don’t trust every YouTuber pitching you “the next Nvidia.” For now though, the silicon survivors are back in the spotlight, and nobody’s talking about Marvell or Teradyne’s hangover today.
As always in chipland: the more things change, the more they rhyme with ‘buy the dip’, just make sure it’s a real dip and not a pothole.
