Finance YouTube this week basically agreed on one thing: Q1 earnings were a banger. The S&P 500 grew earnings 28% vs. the 14% expected, tech grew in the 40s percentage range, and NASDAQ just posted its best month since April 2020. Tom Lee of Fundstrat raised his S&P target to 7,300, called software ETF $IGV a top pick, and told anyone still sitting in cash that the market is "rising for the right reasons." Jim Cramer agreed the big-tech earnings season mostly delivered, though he flagged that next week — with $AMD, $PANW, and Disney on deck — won't be as clean.
The consensus gets murkier when oil enters the chat. The Economist's analysts called trader optimism about a quick Strait of Hormuz resolution "La La Land," with academic models suggesting oil would need to hit $167–$460/barrel to rebalance supply — and the ExxonMobil CEO warning it takes 1–2 months for flows to normalize after the strait reopens. JPMorgan's Bruce Kasman sees a "tug of war" economy, while Bloomberg Surveillance notes markets only get seriously spooked if oil stays above $100–$120 for 3–6 months. We're at month two. Clock is ticking.
Meanwhile, $RBLX collapsed 18.3% in a single session, $CLX got obliterated on cat litter drama (yes, really), and Spirit Airlines is essentially a cautionary tale in a boarding pass — and the government couldn't even save it. Semiconductor April gains were genuinely unhinged: Intel +114%, Astera +78%, $AMD +74%. If AI is the Fourth Industrial Revolution, somebody forgot to tell the bears.
