The consensus on YouTube's finance circuit this week has two lanes: Jerome Powell deserves a slow clap, and OpenAI's 'secure everything compute' strategy deserves a serious side-eye. David Rubenstein (Carlyle Group) appeared on CNBC calling Powell's 8+ year tenure — engineered soft landing, 9% inflation navigated, zero recessions — one of the cleaner Fed runs in modern history. With his 65th and final press conference imminent and rates expected to hold for a third straight meeting, even the critics are grudgingly nodding.
Meanwhile, a WSJ report claiming OpenAI missed internal revenue and user targets detonated across the AI trade. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 4%, chip stocks including $NVDA-adjacent names fell ~3%, and the Nasdaq logged its biggest gap-down open in four weeks. Cramer called it 'healthy rain.' Analysts called it an inter-LLM rotation toward Anthropic's Claude (88% MAU growth YoY in March). Both might be right.
Oh, and WTI crude hit $103.33/barrel, the UAE rage-quit OPEC after six decades, and the Strait of Hormuz is still very much a problem — so enjoy those $4.18 gas prices while Goldman raises its Brent forecast to $90/barrel by Q4 from what is apparently a very optimistic baseline.
