COIN and MSTR Both Up 12%+: Crypto Stocks Are the Week's Big Winners
The SEC greenlights digital securities trading, Bitcoin punches through $81K, and the crypto-adjacent stock trade is louder than anything else on social this week

Ticker Ratings
Everyone is watching oil, the Fed, and the Iran war. Meanwhile, $COIN and $MSTR quietly had one of the best weeks of 2026, and the social chatter is deafening if you know where to look.
According to Bloomberg's Closing Bell recap, Coinbase surged nearly 12% and Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) jumped over 16% on the week, with Robinhood ($HOOD) up roughly 8% and Circle Internet Group adding about 7.8%. The catalyst? The SEC formally approved trading of digital versions of securities on blockchain venues, a move that sent crypto-linked equities into full party mode. Bitcoin itself topped $81,000, up roughly 37% since June 30th. That is not a typo.
On YouTube, the Bloomberg Podcasts channel and Bloomberg's Money Minute both flagged the SEC's digital assets approval as the key unlock for the week's crypto move, with another Bloomberg clip specifically noting Coinbase and Robinhood each popping 12% in a single session. X chatter is split between people who called the bottom back in July feeling very smug right now, and a contingent of macro bears pointing out that a 10-year Treasury yield at 5.01% historically does not coexist peacefully with speculative assets at these prices. Both camps have a point, which is annoying.
Here is the bull case for $COIN: the SEC's 5-year digital asset roadmap gives institutional money a clearer on-ramp than anything the industry has seen since the spot Bitcoin ETF approvals. Trading volume follows regulatory clarity, and Coinbase is the most direct beneficiary of every dollar that flows in. The bear case is equally real: the stock is up big into a rate environment that punishes high-multiple growth names, and the Clarity Act still failed to pass Congress this week, meaning the regulatory win is real but incomplete.
For $MSTR, the trade is simpler and riskier in equal measure. It is essentially a leveraged Bitcoin bet wrapped in a corporate structure, and with Bitcoin at $81K, the math looks great until it does not. SoftBank committing nearly $21 billion in fresh debt against its ARM stake to fund a $65 billion OpenAI commitment (per Bloomberg Tech) shows that the "borrow against assets to buy the future" playbook is everywhere right now. Strategy is just the OG version.
The VIX dropping 12.82% to 15.44 on Thursday tells you the market broadly is exhaling after a rough mid-week stretch. When fear fades and liquidity floods back in, the highest-beta names move first. Crypto stocks are always first in line for that trade, and this week was no exception.
Fourteen months ago people were calling Coinbase a dinosaur. Funny how a bull run changes the vibe.
